Hey word nerds! As some of you know my evil booksister Jen T. has been trying to make me read this book for about a year and apparently was considering unfriending me… yeah it was that bad! But then I was like oh I have some time and need a great book so why not? OH MY FREAKING GOSH! You guys… I hate myself for waiting. But I also strongly believe that if a book is going to touch your heart you have to be ready for it and so I can’t be too upset I waited.
The golden skies, the translucent twilight, the white nights, all hold the promise of youth, of love, of eternal renewal. The war has not yet touched this city of fallen grandeur, or the lives of two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha Metanova, who share a single room in a cramped apartment with their brother and parents. Their world is turned upside down when Hitler’s armies attack Russia and begin their unstoppable blitz to Leningrad.
Yet there is light in the darkness. Tatiana meets Alexander, a brave young officer in the Red Army. Strong and self-confident, yet guarding a mysterious and troubled past, he is drawn to Tatiana—and she to him. Starvation, desperation, and fear soon grip their city during the terrible winter of the merciless German siege. Tatiana and Alexander’s impossible love threatens to tear the Metanova family apart and expose the dangerous secret Alexander so carefully protects—a secret as devastating as the war itself—as the lovers are swept up in the brutal tides that will change the world and their lives forever.
The Bronze Horseman is a love story- not to be confused with a romance book. It is about an all-consuming love that you have to be willing to fight for against the worst odds.
I went from hating Alexander to loving him back to hating him and then falling in love with him forever. I also grew to respect Tatiana because that girl fought hard and proved everyone wrong. This is not a story about insta love and lust. This is a slow burn of hopes and dreams. It is a story that honestly could have taken place and that in itself rips my heart out every single time Alexander and Tatiana have to fight for each other and survival. Being set during WWII makes this story a reminder that real people lived through horrible situations and died by the hundreds and thousands.
I wish I could just give you everything in my head so you could understand the obsession with this book but of all the books I want you to go blind into this one is the absolute most important! It packs a punch when you don’t know what to expect, but if you have read it or do end up reading it feel free to contact me because I will talk about that books for hours and never be bored!
I would give that book 5 stars but a million feels more appropriate so I am rating it 1 million stars! Read it so we can talk about it! I will be here when you need someone to vent to!
