Hey word nerds! Happy Monday! I was FINALLY able to read a book all the way through so I figured I better talk about it!! Especially when it is the lovely and wild Colleen Hoover! So without further ado…
Not every mistake deserves a consequence. Sometimes the only thing it deserves is forgiveness.
The Voss family is anything but normal. They live in a repurposed church, newly baptized Dollar Voss. The once cancer-stricken mother lives in the basement, the father is married to the mother’s former nurse, the little half-brother isn’t allowed to do or eat anything fun, and the eldest siblings are irritatingly perfect. Then, there’s Merit.
Merit Voss collects trophies she hasn’t earned and secrets her family forces her to keep. While browsing the local antiques shop for her next trophy, she finds Sagan. His wit and unapologetic idealism disarm and spark renewed life into her—until she discovers that he’s completely unavailable. Merit retreats deeper into herself, watching her family from the sidelines when she learns a secret that no trophy in the world can fix.
Fed up with the lies, Merit decides to shatter the happy family illusion that she’s never been a part of before leaving them behind for good. When her escape plan fails, Merit is forced to deal with the staggering consequences of telling the truth and losing the one boy she loves.

A lot of the reviews and general chit chat I have seen about this book say things like “this is like nothing else Colleen has written!” which honestly makes me laugh a little. I should hope it is not like anything she has written otherwise I would be buying the same book over and over! So for anyone who has maybe swayed away from the book because of that information I say to you: live a little!! Especially with this book! I cannot wait for my daughters to be teens (well okay I can!) so they can read this book! It is a great story about family and how sometimes not everything is how it seems.
The entire Voss family and friends are a wild bunch full of secrets and quirks and I love each and every one of them. We go on this journey with Merit to see that not everything is always what it appears to be and sometimes we are the ones holding ourselves back. This is a story full of emotions and I for one went through the roller coaster but in the end, I let out a big sigh and felt like everything was okay again. I love how Colleen is always able to bring it back home in a way that makes you feel closure but still know that they could go on living their lives if they were real.
If you haven’t picked up this book yet do it!
